some rules for this summer

i've decided to make a list of some things I think this summer should consist of, being that last summer was one hell of a mess for me-- i want to make this one good.

1) go on a roadtrip -- anywhere, up the coast, somewhere new, just get a change of scenery & take it all in.

2) hangout with people that make you laugh, think, and want to change. i know this sounds self-explanatory but with everyone coming home from college there's a huge pressure to feel obligated to rekindle old friendships that maybe you have no interest in rekindling with. i encourage you to only surround yourself with people that challenge you and do life the same way you do.

3) go do things in the wee hours of the night. the wildest things happen when the sun goes down! my suggestion would be drive your ass down to the beach, take off your clothes, and go swimming. nothing sounds more exhilarating.

4) talk to random people. if there's anything i've learned about living in a new place with no friends around it's  to be as friendly and open as possible, you never know what cool people are around you.

5) pick up a new habit or activity. for me, this summer i've been getting into yoga and journaling/drawing.

6. i say this a little too often but spend time alone! summer time can be weird because you are going back to maybe an old way of living, with your old friends in your hometown and it might feel odd. i think spending some time alone and trying to make sense of the growing and changing you are doing is crucial. you will get to know yourself better!

7. don't succumb to the pressure of having that bikini ready body! good god how i hate that unspoken (& spoken) pressure of not looking or feeling good enough. sometimes all it takes is a conscious mental decision to ignore those thoughts, tell yourself you're hot, and not worry about what people think.

8) don't be afraid to tell people what you really think. summer is only a couple months so make the most of it. i don't mean have a bunch of summer flings or hookups with people but if someone is special to you, don't stay silent about it for too long or you might miss your chance.

9). get a lot of sun, embrace beach hair as much as possible, and for girls, why not go for that all natural no makeup, no bra lifestyle?!

10) learn to make a couple drinks here and there and get a little tipsy sometimes!

OH, and make a bucket list of all the fun things you wanna do this summer.
don't feel bound to it, but try to follow it and live it up as much as you can!

hats off to summer twenty fourteen, man i hope it's a good one.
